| 表面の説明 | Central field bears the interlaced VOC monogram of the Dutch East India Company, formed by the letters V, O, and C in a stylized cipher, with the legend 'C VOC 1:S' distributed around the monogram. The design is set within a squared beaded border characteristic of VOC coinage issued for Ceylon. The overall style is typical of late 18th-century colonial copper coinage produced under VOC authority. |

The VOC was in terminal decline by the 1780s, hemorrhaging money through corruption, mismanagement, and the costs of defending its Asian territories against British encroachment. These copper stuivers were struck for circulation in Batavia and other VOC-controlled ports at precisely the moment the Company's charter was approaching its final renewal debates in the States-General. The VOC was formally dissolved on 31 December 1799, meaning coins from the later end of this date range were struck by an institution already widely understood to be insolvent.
