Obverse description Central field displays the denomination numeral '1' above the abbreviation 'ST' (for Stuiver), enclosed within a wreath whose form varies by variety — leaves, two branches, or thorns depending on the issuing mint and date. The design is crude and characteristic of hammered colonial copper coinage produced for Dutch East India Company territories in Ceylon. The surrounding border is irregular due to the hammered production technique.
