Obverse description The name of the province is rendered in three horizontal lines across the field in Latin lettering: ZEE / LAN / DIA. The mintmark of the Middelburg mint appears above the legend, flanked by a star on each side. The date of issue is inscribed below the provincial name. The overall design is characteristic of the crude, hand-struck style typical of Dutch provincial hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century.
