Obverse description The second coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria occupies the central field, depicting a crowned lion rampant within a wreath of wheat ears tied with a ribbon in the national colors, surmounted by a five-pointed star. A rising sun with rays appears at the base of the shield. The commemorative dates 681 and 1944, representing respectively the founding of the First Bulgarian Empire and the establishment of the People's Republic, are incorporated into the design. The circular legend in Cyrillic reads НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ, running around the upper and lower periphery, with a decorative star separating the legend elements.
