Obverse description Central device consisting of a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Austria-Burgundy and Gelderland, with supporters visible at the sides. The shield is rendered in the late Gothic style typical of Netherlandish hammered coinage of the period. A continuous Latin legend encircles the field, reading within a beaded inner border. The overall design is characteristic of the Burgundian-Habsburg administrative coinage struck during the regency of Philip the Handsome over the Low Countries.
