Aanvullende informatie

Charles the Bold's monetary reforms of the early 1470s attempted to rationalize a patchwork of denominations across his Burgundian territories, and this billon stiver was part of that effort — issued from the Ghent mint during a period when Charles was simultaneously draining his treasury to fund campaigns against the Swiss Confederation. The nickname "Vuurijzer" (fire iron) derives from the flint-and-steel badge of the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece, a heraldic device Charles deployed aggressively across his coinage as a unifying dynastic statement.

Charles was dead at Nancy by January 1477, less than two years after this issue.
