| Obverse description | A rampant lion facing left, rendered in the Gothic heraldic style, supports a tilted shield bearing the arms of the House of Hornes within a beaded inner circle. The lion's crowned head is turned to face the viewer, with open jaws and an elaborately curled mane. The shield displays the characteristic barry device of the Hornes family arms. A Latin legend in uncial characters surrounds the central device, reading clockwise from a cross pattée, identifying the issuer as John, by God's grace Bishop of Liège and Duke of Bouillon. |
