Reverse description A long cross with anchor-shaped tips extends to the beaded inner circle, its centre occupied by a rosette mintmark that divides the four quarters of the field. The arms of the cross are set within a quadrilobe border, itself inscribed within a circular inner legend band. The date 1499 appears within the reverse legend. The entire design is enclosed by a peripheral Latin legend running between the inner and outer borders, with cross stops separating the words.
