Frederik V died in 1766, making the extended date range on this type a product of his successor Christian VII, who retained the same reverse design for decades — a practice common enough in Danish minting that attributing a specific piece to either reign requires checking the regnal portrait, not the type designation. The "Type II" classification distinguishes this from the earlier speciedaler by subtle die modifications made at the Kongsberg-supplied silver supply transitioned through the Copenhagen mint.
Christian VII's long reign, complicated by his well-documented mental incapacity and the regency of Johann Friedrich Struensee from 1770–72, produced little in the way of coherent monetary policy. The speciedaler continued largely on institutional momentum.
