Additional information

Frederik III's introduction of hereditary absolute monarchy in 1660 — codified in the Kongeloven of 1665, one of the most sweeping assertions of royal prerogative in European history — transformed the Danish crown's relationship to its own coinage. The speciedaler issues of 1668–69 were struck under that new constitutional order, the mint now answering entirely to the king rather than to a council with noble representation.

Davenport's EC II classification places this type within a transitional sequence that collectors frequently conflate with earlier Frederik III daler issues; the distinction matters for provenance purposes.
