Obverse description Armored bust of Frederik II facing left, wearing an elaborately decorated gorget and pauldron with fine engraved detail, set within a wreath border. The date 15-72 is divided across the field on either side of the king's armored chest. The effigy is rendered in the Renaissance style typical of late sixteenth-century Danish coinage, with finely tooled surface detail on the armor. The circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading FRIDERICVS*Z*D*G*DA*NOR*SLA*GOTO*Q*REX, interrupted by star or dot separators depending on the die variety.
