| Additional information |
Christian VIII came to the Danish throne in 1839 having already ruled as King of Norway during the brief constitutional experiment of 1814 — a distinction unique among Danish monarchs. His reign saw mounting pressure from Schleswig-Holstein nationalists and a liberal movement demanding constitutional reform at home. He died in January 1848, weeks before the March uprising that forced his successor Frederik VII to grant the very constitution Christian had spent his reign resisting.
The 1846–1848 window for this type is narrow by consequence, not design. The speciedaler series was itself discontinued as the political crisis consumed the administration.
