| Beschrijving voorzijde | Half-length armored effigy of King Christian V facing right, wearing a fur-lined royal mantle and the ribbon and badge of the Order of the Elephant suspended at his chest. The king holds a scepter in his right hand and the globus cruciger in his left, classical symbols of sovereign authority. The legend is divided by the figure and runs along the upper and lower rim in Latin. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the baroque manner characteristic of late seventeenth-century Danish coinage. |

Christian V came to the Danish throne in 1670 inheriting a monarchy fundamentally restructured by the Lex Regia of 1665 — the most explicit written codification of absolute royal authority in European history. The speciedaler issues of his reign were struck at a moment when the Danish crown was aggressively asserting that new absolutist machinery, including through the Scanian War against Sweden that began the very year this coin was minted.
The 1675 dating places this piece squarely in the opening phase of that conflict, when Danish forces briefly recaptured Scania after decades of Swedish occupation. The war ended poorly for Denmark regardless.
