| Obverse description | Full-length armored effigy of King Christian IV of Denmark standing facing, clad in articulated plate armor, holding a scepter in his right hand raised slightly and resting his left hand upon a crowned shield bearing the quartered arms of Denmark. The figure stands with authority in the center of the field, occupying most of the coin's diameter. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner design by a beaded border, reads CHRISTIANUS·IIII·D:G:DAN:NO:V:GO:Q:R:, identifying the king as Christian IV by the Grace of God, King of Denmark, Norway, the Goths and the Wends. The coin is struck in the broad hammered taler format characteristic of early seventeenth-century Scandinavian coinage. |
