| Opmerkingen |
Norges Bank established its own printing works in Trondheim in 1816 — an unusual choice of self-sufficiency for a central bank at that date, and one that persisted for nearly two centuries. The paper itself came from Saunders Paper Mill, a supplier with a long association with security printing in Europe, and carried a watermark as the primary safeguard against counterfeiting.
The Speciedaler was already a dying unit by the time this series ran. Norway's currency reform of 1875 replaced it with the Krone at a rate of 4 Kroner to 1 Speciedaler, tying the country into the Scandinavian Monetary Union. Notes from the tail end of this issue — 1876 — would have had only months of legal validity remaining before redemption.
