Obverse description Laureate and draped young bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elaborately dressed and bound with a wreath of laurel, with a large coiled chignon at the rear. The peripheral legend reads VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR: REGINA F:D: with the date 1855 positioned in the lower exergual area. The effigy, engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon, exhibits fine high-relief modelling characteristic of mid-Victorian pattern coinage. A beaded border surrounds the entire design.
