Obverse lettering VICTORIA DEI GRATIA 1837
(Translation: Victoria by the Grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse presents a crowned quartered shield of arms displaying the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom, set within an ornate wreath composed of national floral emblems — the English rose, Scottish thistle, and Irish shamrock — arranged symmetrically below the shield. The legend BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: arcs around the upper periphery, identifying Victoria as Queen of the Britains and Defender of the Faith. The overall composition reflects the accomplished engraving style of Jean Baptiste Merlen, with fine detail in both the heraldic shield and the surrounding botanical elements. A beaded border frames the design.
