| Reverse description | The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci's celebrated allegorical composition of St George on horseback slaying the dragon, rendered in high relief. The armoured saint is shown mounted on a rearing horse, his lance piercing the dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The mint mark appears below the right foreleg of the horse, with the year of issue and the engraver's initials 'B.P.' disposed in the lower exergual area. The design is contained within a raised rim with no additional legend, following the long-established tradition of the British sovereign type. |

Australia's sovereign output during this period came from three branch mints — Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney — each striking coins to Royal Mint specification but with their own mintmarks. The Sydney Mint closed in 1926, making late Sydney-mint dates within this reign genuinely scarce. Perth continued striking sovereigns into the 1930s, but Melbourne's output tapered sharply after 1924.
The 1920-S is the key date by a considerable margin, with a mintage under 1,000 pieces.
