| Description du revers | The quartered Royal Arms displayed on an ornate shield, surmounted by the Imperial State Crown, and flanked by an elaborate foliate mantle or mantling. The four quarters bear the arms of England (three passant guardant lions), Scotland (a rampant lion), Ireland (a harp), and Hanover (inescutcheon of the Hanoverian arms), reflecting the Union of Great Britain and Ireland and the personal union with Hanover. The circular legend BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF: is disposed around the periphery, with a toothed border at the rim. The design is the work of engraver Jean Baptiste Merlen. |
