Reverse description The celebrated Pistrucci reverse depicts Saint George, helmeted and wearing a billowing cloak, mounted on a rearing horse and thrusting a broken lance downward into the writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves, while brandishing a sword in his right hand. The dragon, shown in its death throes in the lower field, is rendered with fine detail including scaled wings and clawed feet. The date appears in the exergue below a ground line, flanked to the right by the engraver's initials 'B.P.', all within a toothed border.
