Reverse description Saint George mounted on his destrier, depicted in dynamic action as he raises his lance to deliver the killing blow to the dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The composition follows the classical Benedetto Pistrucci tradition, with the armoured knight and rearing horse rendered in fine detail against a plain field. The engraver's initials AP appear in the lower field.

Additional information

Gibraltar has issued sovereign-sized pieces since the 1990s under royal warrant, occupying an odd jurisdictional space — legal tender of a British Overseas Territory, yet outside the purview of the Royal Mint. This 2019 silver piece continues that lineage, its denomination mirroring the gold sovereign's face value of one pound despite bearing no relationship to the historic bullion coin beyond name and dimension.

The .999 silver specification at sovereign proportions was a deliberate collector play; traditional gold sovereigns run .9167 fine.
