The Royal British Legion, founded in 1921 by Field Marshal Douglas Haig, has operated the Poppy Appeal continuously since that year — making 2021 its centenary. This Isle of Man issue almost certainly commemorates that milestone, struck the following year as part of the island's long-running sovereign-format commemorative program. The Isle of Man has no formal constitutional tie to the Legion's mandate, but its prolific commemorative output has made it a frequent vehicle for British commemorative themes since the 1970s.
