This 2019 piece marks the centenary of the Two Minutes' Silence, first observed on 11 November 1919 at the suggestion of South African soldier Sir Percy FitzPatrick, after King George V adopted the idea and issued a royal proclamation.
The silence itself was reportedly inspired by a practice FitzPatrick witnessed in Cape Town during the war.
