The Isle of Man has issued sovereign-format gold pieces independently since 1973, when the island gained control over its own coinage through the Isle of Man Coinage Act. Unlike Royal Mint sovereigns, Manx issues have no legal tender status in the United Kingdom, though their gold content mirrors the traditional British standard exactly. The Platinum Jubilee occasion — marking Elizabeth II's 70th year on the throne — produced a crowded field of commemorative issues across multiple jurisdictions in 2022, and Elizabeth died that September, making all 2022 Jubilee pieces inadvertently terminal.
