Jersey's 2009 sovereign commemorates the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession, which fell that year. The issue was part of a broader commemorative sovereign program Jersey ran during this period, exploiting the Crown Dependency's latitude to produce collector coinage independently of the Royal Mint.
