| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a large, boldly rendered three-bladed propeller of the Supermarine Spitfire dominating the central field, with a stylised plan-view silhouette of the aircraft depicted in flight below the hub. The legend BATTLE OF BRITAIN is inscribed in large block capitals along the left periphery, with SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE appearing in smaller lettering diagonally across the inner field. To the right, the commemorative inscription 80 YEARS is prominently displayed, marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. A dentilated border surrounds the design. |

Alderney occupied a peculiar position during the Battle of Britain: the island had been evacuated of nearly all its civilian population in June 1940, just before German forces arrived to garrison it. It was the only British territory to remain under occupation for the duration of the war. A commemorative issue from this particular dependency carries an irony that most issuers in this series cannot claim.
