Reverse description The classic Benedetto Pistrucci design depicting Saint George, clad in Roman armour and mounted on a rearing horse, slaying the dragon with a broken lance. The scene is rendered with dynamic energy: the dragon writhes beneath the horse's hooves as Saint George drives his weapon downward. The design occupies the full field with no encircling legend, and the date appears in the exergue. The initials B.P. for Benedetto Pistrucci are incused below the horse's tail. The proof finish accentuates the fine sculptural detail of this iconic composition.
