1 Sovereign - Charles III Coronation, Silver Piedfort

Piedforts have been struck as collector multiples since at least medieval France, where they served as presentation pieces and die-quality proofs for assay purposes. The modern commemorative piedfort — double the standard planchet thickness — carries none of that administrative function, but the Isle of Man Treasury has issued them consistently enough that the format has become a minor collecting category in its own right. Charles III's coronation on 6 May 2023 was the first such ceremony in seventy years, generating an unusually dense field of competing commemorative issues across multiple jurisdictions.
