The Soudicy is a local complementary currency (monnaie locale complémentaire, or MLC) issued by an association based in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. France saw a proliferation of such schemes after the 2008 financial crisis, and by the late 2010s dozens of regional MLCs were in active circulation, accepted by networks of participating local merchants as a tool for keeping spending within a defined geographic area.
These association-issued notes carry no legal tender status and derive their value entirely from voluntary participation. Paper composition is typical of low-run associative printing, not security printing.
