Obverse lettering FRED | ERICV | S·REX | DACI(E)
(Translation: Frederik (I) King of Danes)
Reverse description Within a beaded circle, a shield bearing the arms of Denmark is centrally placed, with the last two digits of the date appearing above the shield; on certain varieties (SIEG 10.2), a crescent moon and star flank the shield at either side, while other specimens (SIEG 10.3) appear without these celestial symbols. The surrounding legend in uncial lettering runs outside the beaded border and is terminated by a small crown. The overall design is typical of the monetary coinage of Copenhagen of the early sixteenth century, combining heraldic and civic elements in a compact hammered format.
