Obverse description Two facing busts in Byzantine imperial style: a crowned and bearded bust to the left alongside a crowned and mustachioed bust to the right, with a cross potent positioned between them. The effigies are rendered in a crude, barbaric imitation of Byzantine prototype coinage. A degenerate pseudo-legend encircles the busts in the outer field, composed of nonsensical Latin-derived letterforms that are largely illegible and attest to the non-literate copying tradition of Avar goldsmiths.
