Reverse description A floriated cross with ornate, trefoil-terminated arms occupies the central field, its design elaborated with decorative foliate elements at each extremity in the Gothic tradition. The cross is contained within a beaded or reeded inner circle, which serves to frame the central device and separate it from the surrounding marginal legend. The circumferential inscription, rendered in uncial Latin, records the titles of Gian Galeazzo Visconti as Count of Vertus, Lord of Milan, Verona, and other territories. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of hammered silver coinage of this period, and the strike shows typical uneven surface relief.
