Obverse description The obverse presents the iconic Venetian composition of the Doge kneeling in homage before the winged Lion of Saint Mark, which stands facing left with wings raised. The Doge, shown in full ducal regalia, receives a banner or standard from the lion. The denomination numeral 12 appears in the lower field flanked by small stars. The circular Latin legend around the periphery reads S·M·V·IOAN·CORN·, identifying the patron saint of Venice and the reigning Doge Giovanni Corner II.
