| Obverse description | The winged Lion of St. Mark is depicted at left facing the kneeling Doge at right, who presents a staff surmounted by a cross and bearing a pennant. The numeral '12' appears in the exergue, denoting the coin's value in bagattini. The legend encircles the design field, identifying the issuer and the reigning Doge Giovanni Corner. The composition is executed in the characteristic hammered style of Venetian billon coinage of the early seventeenth century. |

| Additional information |
Giovanni Corner I served as Doge from 1625 to 1629, a tenure dominated by Venice's grinding involvement in the War of the Mantuan Succession — a conflict that strained the treasury severely enough that billon coinage of this period often shows irregular planchet quality as the mint worked with debased metal supplies. Corner died in office in 1629, the same year plague swept Venice and killed roughly a third of the city's population, collapsing both commerce and the demand for small-denomination coinage almost overnight.
