Obverse description Central field occupied by a large quartered heraldic shield surmounted by a visored helm, displaying the combined arms of the Sforza and Visconti dynasties: upper-left quarter bears an eagle displayed, upper-right a serpent or biscione, lower-left a serpent, and lower-right an eagle, all rendered in the bold relief characteristic of late-medieval Lombard hammered coinage. The shield is enclosed within a plain inner circle bordered by a beaded or rope-pattern ring. The surrounding legend reads G3 · M · SF · VICECO · DVX · MELI · V ·, abbreviating the full titulature of Galeazzo Maria Sforza Visconti as fifth Duke of Milan, distributed around the periphery of the flan.
