The anonymous soldino — struck without a doge's name — was a deliberate administrative choice by the Venetian mint, allowing the type to remain in continuous production across multiple reigns without the expense of reengineering dies each time a new doge took office. By the mid-sixteenth century, these fractional silver pieces circulated heavily throughout Venice's Adriatic trading network, where small denominations moved through markets faster than larger named issues. The CNI VII references cover two distinct die variants documented for this type, a distinction that matters more to attribution than to valuation at this weight class.
