| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely detailed high-relief depiction of a full-rigged sailing ship under sail on a stylized sea, representing the Peruvian Navy's tall ship. A ribbon banner inscribed MARINA DE GUERRA DEL PERÚ arches across the upper field, flanked by two small naval star rosettes in the left and right fields. In the lower portion of the field, the inscription BICENTENARIO / 1821–2021 appears at lower left, while a detailed ship's steering wheel bearing the motto DISCIPLINA Y TRADICIÓN is rendered at lower right, completing the commemorative composition. |

Peru's navy traces its origins to 1821, when Lord Cochrane — a disgraced former Royal Navy officer who had already helped secure Chilean independence — led a small, poorly equipped squadron against the Spanish Pacific fleet. This coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of that institution, which began not with Peruvian sailors but with foreign mercenaries and captured Spanish hulls.
KM#429 is part of a broader Bicentennial series issued by the BCRP across multiple denominations and subjects throughout 2021.
