Part of Peru's long-running "Riqueza y Orgullo del Perú" commemorative circulation series, which the BCRP has used since 2010 to rotate regional cultures and natural heritage across the 1 Sol denomination. The Mochica, who flourished on Peru's northern coast roughly between 100 and 800 AD, are among the most archaeologically documented pre-Columbian cultures in the Americas — their ceramic portrait vessels have allowed physical anthropologists to identify specific individuals across centuries.
