Obverse description A fasces surmounted by a Phrygian cap stands upright in the centre of the field, flanked on either side by a branch of oak leaves forming an open wreath. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1793 and the Republican calendar notation L'AN 2E appear along the lower border. A beaded inner border frames the entire design, characteristic of French Revolutionary coinage of the period.

Reverse description The denomination is rendered in two bold lines at the centre of the field, with the numeral 1 above and SOL below, separated by a small ornamental dot. A circular legend surrounds the central inscription, reading MONNOYE DE SIÈGE DE MAYENCE, attesting to the coin's status as siege currency struck during the Franco-Austrian investment of Mainz in 1793. A dotted border runs along the inner rim, and the overall execution is utilitarian in style, consistent with emergency coinage produced under wartime conditions.
