Peru's mid-1970s coinage was produced under the military government of Francisco Morales Bermúdez, who had seized power in a 1975 coup against Juan Velasco Alvarado. The absence of a mintmark on this type indicates Lima Mint production — standard for the period, but worth noting because Lima was simultaneously managing a transition in its coin contracts as foreign minting arrangements wound down. The KM#266.1 designation distinguishes this larger-module variety from the reduced-size 266.2 type introduced as inflationary pressure made smaller, cheaper flans economically necessary.
