Bolivia's early republican coinage was struck at Potosí, the same mountain mint that had produced Spanish colonial pieces for nearly three centuries. The transition from colonial to republican dies was administratively chaotic — the new government inherited Spanish machinery, Spanish assayers, and in some cases Spanish workers, making the first republican issues hybrids of two monetary regimes rather than clean breaks from one.

KM#94 spans only three years before it was superseded by revised republican types. Potosí's assayer initials appear on pieces across this run, and attributing specific die marriages to individual years remains an active area of study.
