A nimbus surrounds the bishop's head, emphasizing his saintly status. To the lower left of the throne, a small architectural vignette with water alludes to the legend of the saint's death at a bridge. A floral spray appears to the lower right of the figure. The circular Latin legend SANCTVS ERMENGARDVS D M EPS VRGELLENSIS runs along the periphery, separated from the central design by a beaded border, with the engraver's name TERUGGI also present in the field.
