Additional information

Denmark's skilling coinage was already obsolescent when these were struck. The country had committed to decimalization under the Scandinavian Monetary Union framework being negotiated through the late 1860s, and the skilling rigsmønt system — itself only rationalized in 1854 — would be abandoned entirely when Denmark, Sweden, and Norway adopted the krone in 1875. These small bronze pieces were produced knowing their denomination was expiring, minted essentially to fill the gap before the new system arrived.
