Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned lion rampant of Norway faces left, holding a battle-axe in its right forepaw — the traditional heraldic device of the Norwegian realm. The figure is rendered in the bold, somewhat stylised manner characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century hammered billon coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, separated from the design by a plain border.
