Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Olav, patron saint of Norway, standing in the field, crowned and robed in royal garments, holding an axe in his right hand and an orb in his left. The figure is rendered in the late Gothic hammered style characteristic of Scandinavian ecclesiastical coinage of the early sixteenth century. Above the figure, a crowned heraldic shield bearing the Norwegian lion is visible. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the circumferential legend in uncial Latin characters reading SANCTVS OLAWS R NORWEGIE.
