Additional information

Erik Valkendorf held the archiepiscopal seat at Nidaros from 1510 until his forced exile in 1522, when a bitter dispute with Christian II drove him to Rome, where he died in 1522 never having returned to Norway. These skillings were struck during the earlier, stable years of his tenure, before that conflict consumed him. The Archbishopric of Nidaros retained the right to strike its own coinage — one of the few ecclesiastical mints in Scandinavia still functioning at this late date.

Skaare 335 is not common in any grade. Most survivors show significant wear from active circulation in northern Norwegian trade.
