Obverse description Central shield bearing the three crowned lions of Denmark, surmounted by a royal crown, with the date split 5-4 flanking the shield within the inner field. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend reading CHRISTIANVS · D · G · DANOR · REX arranged around the periphery between the beaded and plain outer borders. The device is executed in the bold, somewhat crude relief characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century hammered provincial coinage.
