Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Oscar I facing right, rendered in relatively small, finely detailed relief with naturalistically rendered wavy hair. The king's portrait is centrally positioned in the field, truncated at the neck. A circular legend runs along the periphery, separated from the effigy by a raised inner rim, reading OSCAR SVERRIGES NORR.GÖTH.O.VEND.KONUNG., proclaiming his titles as King of Sweden, Norway, the Goths and the Wends. The overall engraving style is characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Swedish coinage.
