Reverse description A quartered heraldic shield displaying the combined arms of Austria and Burgundy, centrally positioned over a long cross whose arms extend nearly to the beaded border of the coin. The upper-left and lower-right quarters bear the Austrian fess, while the upper-right and lower-left quarters display the Burgundian lions and diagonal stripes of Guelders respectively. Decorative floral or foliate ornaments appear at the terminals of the cross arms. The entire composition is enclosed within a continuous circular Latin legend reading as a devotional or martial invocation. The reverse exhibits bold, deeply struck heraldic engraving characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage.
