Tibet experimented with brass as a coinage metal in the late 1920s as part of a broader — and ultimately unsuccessful — effort to modernize and formalize its mint operations at Trabshi. The 1927 brass sho patterns were never approved for circulation; the Tibetan monetary system continued to rely on silver and copper issues, and brass remained alien to local commercial expectations. KM#Pn9 is one of several pattern strikes from this period that document the government's metallurgical hesitations rather than any actual monetary policy change.
